  1. honestly, all doctors have good lifestyles and excellent pay. being a registered nurse is also a good lifestyle with good pay. i know of some RNs who have been working for 10 or more years and are earning over $116,000. although RNs may not make as much as a doc, they don't deal with all the stress. also, they don't have to worry about getting sued and all that insurance nonsense, which cost over $100,000 a year!! and you can become a registered nurse in 4 years. to become a doc, you need 4 years with another 4 years in med school and another 4 in residency. do you think its worth an extra 8 years to become a doc? or would you rather just get your B.A. or B.S. and that's it? Also, if you do become a RN, you can always go back to school to get a doctorate degree to become a nurse practitioner. As a nurse practitioner, you will be able to act as a doctor, open your own office, and do almost anything except prescribe medicines.

So overall, both are great careers. If you want less stress and don't want to spend too many years studying, I'd say to become a RN. If you want a really high salary, become a doctor. All kinds of doctors have good lifestyles and good pay, from internal medicine docs to neurosurgeons. Nurses have good lifestlyes and pay, as well.

  2. actually, nurse practitioners can and do prescribe meds... they just aren't as well covered by malpractice insurances.

the question is what sort of lifestyle /pay do you consider good?

i make 55k /yr, work 3-4 days a week and take very little call, i would call it a good lifestyle to pay ratio and I'm an RN. i could go to school and make alot more, like as a practitioner or an anesthetist, but right now I'm good where I'm at.

i know alot of doctors who make alot more, work 7 days a week and are always on call (cus I'm the one calling them at 330 in the am) . i just read in a medical law journal 7/10 doctors have active lawsuits against them, and these numbers will continue to rise as health care gets More expensive and our society more litigious.

my recommendation, if your thinking about a career go to dentistry school. they make as much as doctors, are like never on call (compared to a cardiologist anyway) and work office hours.

      other suggestions for doctors

    anesthesiologist

    oncologist/hematologist

    emergency

    family practice

    dermatologist

    but emergency,anesthesiology get sued alot...

or go nurse, i love it

but if i were going to do somehting else, it would be dentist...

  3. For sure physician is higher in what do you get in nurse specially when you are in rare field like brain or heart but that need a lot of studying and effort from you. If you need the short cut go to registered nurse if you are looking for money go to be a physician.
