Question:

Registered Sporthorse?

My wife is looking at a registered sporthorse to buy. We know the basics of what makes up a sporthorse, usually a pure bred warmblood sire/purebred draft mare. Or some combinations of warmbloods and drafts. Like I am aware of a 3/4 thoroughbred X 1/2 percheron that is a registered sporthorse. However, it raises the question.. what exactly is required to be "registered"?

  1. The sport horse registry is a registry base on type as opposed to breed. Typically a sport horse is breed to complete in the 'English' disciplines as opposed to a stock horse which a bred for the 'Western' disciplines. They tend to be leggy with an athletic uphill build. I mean you can have a pony registered as a 'sport horse' so you have a HUGE range when dealing with a registered sport horses.

  2. Well.. A warmblood is a mixture, for starters.

I have a 1/4 clyd, and 3/4 thoroughbred cross. He's a registered warmblood- and because he came from ireland, he's an "irish warmblood".

Associations are extremely wordy, but as long as you can prove your horse is a warmblood (thoroughbredxhanoverian, thoroughbredxdraft, thoroughbredxtrakhener, hanoverianxdraft, etc.) then you simply needed to contact the sport horse registration and apply your horse.
