Question:

Registered information of a tatooed x-race horse?

I just bought a gelding who has a tatoo under his upper lip. He is not a TB, I think he is a QH. Do they do the tatoos too? He is solid bay in color about 15.2 hands tall. A real gentleman.

Can I find out about his registration information from the tatoo? How would I go about doing that?

  1. yes

  2. If you are sure he isn't a TB then you could contact the AQHA to find out about his tatoo. Another possibility though is that he could be a Standardbred race horse. You might try contacting that breed association for information on him. If he is a TB he should have a letter followed by five digits representing his birth year and registration number.  For a fee of $35 the Jockey Club will trace his tatoo. If they don't get a match then there is no fee charged.
