Question:

Registering Car Bought on ebay

I bought a car on ebay about a month ago. The dealer is technically in Pennsylvania, but they have an office down here in Florida and they go to auctions to get their cars. Well my car was bought by the dealer in Miami and sent to PA, then they sold it to me 10 days later and shipped it down to Florida. I got the title in the mail about a week ago and I'm trying to get it registered. I have been to the DMV 5 times and they will not let me register it because they say that since the dealer is in PA they aren't authorized to sell me the car in FL. I have talked to the dealer and the dealer has talked to the DMV and they said the only way they would register the vehicle is if the dealer faxes them their company receipts showing that it was shipped from FL to PA and then back to FL. The DMV also wrote in pen on my title saying that the dealer needs to register the car in PA and then sell it to me and then I have to transfer it back to a FL title. Isn't that defacing legal documents? What do I do to get this car registered, other than have the dealer send his private documents?

  1. WOW, what a tale... the selling dealer has the obligation to provide you with a valid, transferable certificate of title. It is his responsibility. You now have the option to void the deal and get a full refund, if they can't in a timely manner.

  2. Not a big deal.  All the dealer needs to do is get a dealer title in PA then send you the rest of the paperwork.  It would not be defacing any legal documents.  We get every car we buy a dealer title in our name.
