Registration and insurance help please!

I'm buying my car from my mom. I was wondering how long it will take to get the registration to the car to be put in my name instead of hers? I need to know because I have to get my decal for school and we have to have proof of insurance and registration. How long will it take to get my insurance paper and registration to my new car?

  1. Do it in person and it will take an hour or two.

Do it on line and it will take as long as it takes the DMV to mail you your new registration form. (Maybe a week or so.)

  2. Depends on the lines down at your DMV.  It could be anywhere from 30 minutes, to two hours.

Go to a local agent, bring your checkbook, you can buy a policy and walk out of there with proof of insurance, then go to the DMV, and transfer the car over.

You can do the whole deal, in one afternoon.

  3. Go to the DMV and stand in line. Once you finally get to the window, they'll transfer the title and give you a receipt.

Same thing with the insurance, some companies can provide you proof of insurance over the internet.
