Registration for the 2011 European Fencing Championships in progress: Fencing Update
For the European Fencing Championships 2011 (EFC), frequent entries are being received by the organising body despite the fact that the event still has two more months to go.
EFC 2011 is supposed to take place among senior male and female fencers from July 14-19 at the England Institute of Sport in Sheffield, England. This championship is also featuring events of wheelchair fencing, for which 6 delegations have already registered
their entries.
Moreover, the championship itself has yet received entries from a total of 29 delegations for various weapon disciplines. The organisers are very satisfied with not just the growing number of registration, day-by-day, but all the aspects related to the event.
The event falls right in the middle of the Olympic/Paralympic qualifying period, which means that all fencers will be all set to prove their abilities for heading into the 2012 London Olympic Games.
Piers Martin from the stakeholder group commented over the event by saying, “The organising committee for the championships have been working hard to remain well ahead of schedule and the inclusion of the wheelchair events will help bring British Fencing
and the British Disability Fencing Association (BDFA) closer together.”
Moreover, the Event Director, John Timms added that the event comes to life when the tickets are open for sale and it is planned to launch the sale soon.
“With the 2012 Games just around the corner the European Fencing Championships, incorporating the IWAS Wheelchair Fencing Championships, will offer people an opportunity to see a sport that they might not otherwise. We hope to give these people a good understanding
of the sport close-up with a programme which explains the rules and introduces the GB team plus other top European fencers,” added Timms.
The event has been scheduled to take place as follows:
Tuesday, July 12 Official Arrival Day
Wednesday, July 13 Arrival Day / Training Day
Thursday, July 14 Women Sabre and Men Foil Individuals
Friday, July 15 Women Foil and Men Epee Individuals

The EFC 2011 will also conduct a Taster programme alongside at the same venue in Sheffield. There are four possible ways to become part of it. First three of these are free of cost that include attending the championship and the visit of coaches to schools
located nearby where they will deliver the training with the help of Go Fence equipment, a safe and soft form of fencing that is helpful to provide the initial learning of the sport.
Moreover, these participants will also get a chance to meet some of world’s best fencers in action at the championship.
