Question:

05 Xterra Catalytic Converter

Well, my X is almost dead again. 10 days ago, it was at the dealership being serviced. They replaced the IPDM and said she was "Good as new". After driving the X for the last couple of days it has been driving sluggish, and just generally not the same. Seems to be lacking power, especially at low speeds. SO - I have been VERY hesitant to drive it, in fact, since getting it back, it has been driven less than 100 miles.

Today, driving down the highway, there it is "Service Engine Soon"... glowing steady this time, not flashing. I have my husband take it to Auto Zone & it gives a code for catalytic converter. Back to Nissan for service. My vehicle has 51,000 miles and needless to say I am NOT happy. NO extended warranty.

Any Nissan service guys out there with any advice? Have you seen this recently?

  1. The federal government several years ago mandated that all parts of the emissions system be covered under a 10 year-100,000 mile warranty. The catalytic converter is part of the emission control system, so, it should be covered. Take it to your dealer and have them fix it.

  2. Possibly Cat converter was damaged when the last incident happened. It will only take one day to change out either side front converter. I work on several Xterria's with 100,000 miles and Frontier's with 145,000 miles both have had at least one converter. Anything that could cause misfire can flood the converter with fuel overheat the converter and damage occurs. Make sure the dealer cleans out the entire exhaust because if the converter came apart it is now in the front pipes and muffler too.

  3. Well for one I'm not a Nissan Guy. #2, have you tried to check further input into the other warranty you have on your car?

    I'm just questioning that's all.

There is a bumper to bumper warranty on all cars I'm sure.

1 is a basic warranty : think it is 36,000 miles and 36 months and the other is 2. Powertrain: 60,000 miles and/or 60 months.

You can see this in your warranty book.

If I remember correctly Nissan told me its in the warranty book, umm, 4 and 6 page numbers.

    Yeah that's it.

I'd call Nissan and find out about that other warranty coverage and asking for some assistance. I'm sure they would help yah out with the concern.

They helped me out with my car problems.

  4. you might read your warrenty too cause nissan warrenties there emitions for like 7yrs or 70k miles
