1 inch range on remote

Question

I have been using my amp for only two weeks and last night it just decided that the range of the remote (one that came with receiver) is only extending out one inch. All the receiver functions on remote work well when I hold the remote no more than an inch from receiver's sensor. All the obvious has been accomplished batteries, cleaning lens etc. The funny part is the other programmed components (DVD, TV) on the remote work fine from distances of 15 feet. I am hoping it's the remote and not the receiver. Any suggestions?
