My daughter first crawled on her 10th month birthday.. she pulls herself up very easy now and can walk across things like the couch and what not, she got a toy for her birthdaythat shes supposed to push and walk with it, she has done it like 2 times by herself but then just goes on her knees and goes. If you hold both her hands and walk with her she will actually take a good many steps =]. I was wondering if anyone went threw this with there child and if so how long after did they start walking? i just hope she walks before summer is over so i can take her outside =] thanks

  1. Mine was the same.  Then we got a kitty.  We let kitty out of her kennel and my daughter took off after her, lol.  That's what worked for us.  She'll do it when she is ready.  Give her time, trust me.  When they learn to walk they learn to run and climb.  Enjoy your lill bit of freedom you have left.  They grow so fast.  Enjoy her every day.  Good Luck.

  2. The age a baby will "usually" walk from ranges from around 8 months to 2 1/2 years. Some kids are even outside of these ages.

Dont worry, so long as your daughter continues to try she will walk. If she was sitting and not even trying I would be more inclined to worry but she sounds perfectly normal.

My daughter would walk holding onto a piece of newspaper but not walk on her own!

Once she is comfortable and is ready she will start and then you will be wishing she was still crawling!

Kids will "coast" - walk around holding onto things for quite a while up, to a couple of months, before they start walking - then they are off.

Good luck - let her develop at her own pace and enjoy every day.

  3. Give her time. Some babies are just late bloomers. Before you know it she will be walking all over the place and then you will be back on here asking what you can do to slow her down.hehehe....LOL

  4. Oh my son did this.

i had to bribe him a few feet away with food like cheeze doodles and cookies. Normally he was so excited and in such a hurry to get to the food that he walked over if he was standing already.

  5. My son was exactly the same.. it took him a few weeks after walking round the furniture to walk properly.. try standing her then move a few paces back to her and encourage her to walk the few steps to you.. this is how i helped my son walk last year, and now he is 21 months and running aswell....

    each child is different..

    i hope this helps

    good luck x

  6. Sorry to disappoint you but I do not think your daughter will be walking outside this summer.  She is on the verge of walking and will probably do so within any day now to the next several weeks.  Once walking inside though, it takes several weeks for a new walker to be comfortable with shoes on and walking outside.  Even barefoot new walkers are wary of strange surfaces and will quickly revert to crawling outside.

  7. Actually I believe normal range for walking is 8-17 months..(source below)...if a child is not walking at 2/2.5 years old like minyahh said that is a BIG ALARM that something is abnormal in the mental growth of the child. I have a 13 month old (and a 9 year old), he started climbing up on furniture at about 11.5 months and he is now taking up to 10 steps on his own. But as all babies, they will prefer t crawl because it is easier. Encourage her to balance by standing on her own for brief periods of time, if she is already doing this you and another adult can sit on the floor facing each other and encourage her to take 1-3 or so steps on her own to each of you. This will help strengthen the muscles she needs for walking and will be doing it by herself in no time.
