  1. Assuming the x's indicate multiply, the order of operations call for multiplication before addition.

    -18-24+12= -30

  2. Asking a question like that here indicates that you should get out of homeschooling and get a real, live teacher to help you.

  3. it's -30...

  4. -30.  Sorry, I thought those were X's.  I guess they're multiplication signs...

  5. answer = -30

  6. -30

  7. It is most likely a HS asking the question.  I agree, the child needs a professional teacher.

  8. PEDMAS: Parentheses, Exponents, Division/Multiplication, Addition/Subtraction

That's the order you do them in, NOT in the order given, as someone said.

So you do the -12 x 2 first, and your 6x2.  Your question is now:

    -18 - 24 + 12

    Which equals -30.

And TR, this person is likely a *public schooled student* who is asking for homework help. For some reason, lots of students goof on selecting the correct category. Does that mean that the student should no longer be in public school? Stop being so judgemental.
