I feel like i'm the only one with no license and i'm 18 on Monday. I failed twice on the driving test. My mom is nagging me to get out to practice. What should I say to her? I don't feel ready to get my license yet. Is this normal?

  1. You're not practicing and your mom is a nag -- your problem is either lack of confidence, or a passive-aggressive "rebellion" against mom's nagging.  Did you take driver's ed?  Who goes with you when you practice driving?

Go to a professional driver training school so you have a real, experienced, qualified instructor.  Find someone to go with you when you practice other than mom.  How about dad?

You must learn how to drive.  It is an essential skill for everyone in today's world.  Furthermore, you need a driver's license for ID, job hunting, etc.  Bosses do not like someone who cannot drive -- how are you going to get to work?  Depend on someone else?  Rely on notoriously unreliable public transportation?  Driving is a sign of maturity, independence and self-reliance that bosses look for.

  2. I have several friends around 18 or 19 who don't have their license, and don't seem to be in any hurry to get one. My parents don't think it is normal because when they were younger, kids rushed the day they turned 16 to get theirs. I would also agree with Babylesley, your mom probably wants you to get one so she won't have to drive you around. Another reason may be because she wants you to grow up or become more independent by being able to drive yourself.

As for what you should say to her, tell her how you feel, that you don't feel ready for it yet. Do you not feel ready because you feel you need more practice? Or is it intimidating? Or do you just believe you don't have any need to drive yet?

Whenever you are ready, you could practice with someone in the car who doesn't drive you insane. That can make it a lot more frustrating.

I failed my first driving test, even though I practiced a lot before I went. I failed the parallel parking, but even if you fail the driving portion, either way you could benefit from practice. Don't start driving by yourself until you feel ready to.

  3. ya if you don't want to do anything

  4. If you really need to drive, then practice.

if you don't ............................then don't even bother doing it.

  5. Just say that you will be her driver for a bit.  Till you get the hang of it.  Don't worry. I dodn't get my licence till about a month after my 18th b-day.

  6. if you live in an area with there is a public transportation like busses, trains, metro, and cabs, then your mom shouldn't make a big deal about it. But if she has to drive you places, then yes, I would nag you too. Get the license to shut her up. I get sick of driving sometimes and I'm only 23.

  7. lol in U.A.E. some  (girls) couldnt get their license unless they r married u r luky

  8. If you don't feel ready, you should not get your license under any circumstances.  It is unsafe and unwise.

If you need to drive, then just keep practicing and go get it when you're ready.

If you don't need to drive, forget about it.

While common stereotypes may tell you that "everyone" has a license, it's not the case.  I know many people that didn't get their licenses until their 20s.
