1982 Honda CM250 Custom

I just bought a recently restored 1982 Honda CM250 Custom that has 20,259 miles on it. When you try to accelerate it takes a second or so sometimes to get the RPM's up, is there anything you can do to make that faster ex:carbs cleaned, also is there anyway to make it warm up faster, it takes about 5 minutes for it to start running good enough for you to take the choke off. It looks like it's only a few years old, paint only 3 weeks old, little rust, new tires, and runs great. How much is a bike such as this one worth?

  1. These earlier bikes have a charm of their own.  This charm is also their character because of the technology limitation available at that juncture.  The quick warm-up you seek has always been a pipe dream which luckily can be resolved if you purchase a vehicle equipped with fuel injection instead of carb.  They have to be designed in such a manner from the drawing board.  You cannot make the switch on your model.

  2. NEVER let a bike idle for 5 minutes with the choke on.

It will foul spark plugs, turn the exhaust pipes blue, waste gas and annoy your neighbors.

All Hondas are cold blooded and take forever to warm up to operating temperatures.

After a minute of blipping the throttle, ride it.

Slowly turn off the choke in incements until it will idle without the choke.

  3. Try NOX to help the 250 get to speed faster. :-)

The choke issue is normal. The bikes are jetted a touch on the lean side to begin with. This is why they get such good mileage. This lean setting means it will not want to idle without the chock till the engine warms up enough. This is not a problem. I have owned several old Hondas and they were all cold blooded. Price-wise I would say $1,000 to $1,500.
