  1. Both police radar and radar detectors have come a LONG way in the past 12 years. In addition to using new radar bands (frequencies) that old radar detectors don't detect, the police are more often using instant-on and POP radar, short bursts of radar aimed at a vehicle. The old radar detectors don't detect instant-on or POP, or if they do detect it it's too late. New radar detectors detect instant-on and POP from a distance, giving you a chance to check your speed before you enter the police speed trap.

Another difference between then and now is the increasing use of police laser (LIDAR). Nearly all radar detectors 'detect' police laser, but if ANY radar detector alerts to police laser, it's too late; you have 0.2 seconds (2 tenths of a second) between the time the laser hits you and the time your speed is showing up on the laser gun display. That's not nearly enough time to react to police laser. If you are concerned about police laser as well as radar, you'll need a laser jammer. Like radar detectors, laser jammers are also legal in nearly every state.

If you want the best of both, radar detection and laser jamming, there are a lot of great integrated radar detector/laser jammer combo systems available. The best is probably the Escort Passport 9500ci, which includes an excellent radar detector plus the new Escort ZR4 Laser Jammer. (See sources for links.)

  2. well why dont you put it in your car and drive around really fast and see if it works that way....how else are you suppose to find out if it still works.  Might be helpful if you know a cop and he can help ya out so you dont get a ticket too.
