  1. I went for my first scan when I was just 8 weeks. (I live in South Africa) The gynecologist did a internal sonar. We could see the 'heartbeat' - actually it was just vibrations! The baby measured 0.8mm!! It was sooooo cute! I felt alot better after seeing that! I'm now 18 weeks and going for my 3rd sonar tomorrow! Congratulations!

  2. i have always had my 1st dating scan between 10-12wks

    then abnormality scan 20-22wks

but im in the uk so may be dif all over the world!

  3. It depends on the pregnancy.  Some people get them very early to properly date the pregnancy, but standard practice is around 20 or so weeks for everyone even if you had an earlier ultrasound.

    good luck and congratulations,

mom of 5 soon to be 6

  4. It depends upon where you live.  Everything is covered by provincial health care where I live, but you don't get your first ultrasound until week 18, unless there are problems, or you ask your doctor/midwife nicely and they order you one.  :)  I had one early because we had difficulty finding the heartbeat with a doppler and my midwife didn't want me worrying until my next visit.

  5. i had mine at 12 weeks x

  6. Obstetric ultrasound scans in pregnancy are not compulsory, and are only recommended when a legitimate medical reason is present.

The first trimester scan you should be offered is a nuchal translucency scan (NT Scan) between 11 and 13 weeks 6 days.

Some women may be offered a first trimester scan, which is done vaginally, between 6 and 10 weeks of pregnancy. This scan is often called a dating or viability scan and is usually only offered to women with a history of miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy, those who are experiencing pain or bleeding, or who are uncertain about when they may have conceived.

  7. It depends on your doctor.  I had my first scan at 5 weeks, another at 7 weeks and another at 11 weeks, because I am high risk (I have already had two miscarriages).

Most doctors wait until after 8 weeks, because by then you will be able to see the heartbeat.

    Good luck!

  8. it depends

  9. With all 3 of my kids, I had my first scan at 6 weeks. It really depends on the doctor though, some prefer to wait a little longer.

  10. usually around 12 wks, good luck
