My 1 yr old fell on a brick fire place last night. He has a small cut no bigger than my thumb nail at the end of his eyebrow, it's not deep and there was slight swelling. We put a dab of peroxide on it. Once he stopped crying it didn't seem to bother him. He still walked around and played with his toys after the fall, but this morning he doesn't really want to wake up. I'm not sure if it's because he stayed up later than usual last night or what. No we didn't take him to the hospital cause it wasn't bad, but now i'm wondering if he has a concussion. No this isn't my first child, but I never went through this with the other two. I'm just wondering if anyone could help shed some light on the situation. Thankx

  1. Not waking up easily can be a sign of a head injury. I would take him in to the ER now get checked out. If you cannot wake him at all, call EMS immediately.

I am not one of those quick on the draw instant answerers of "TAKE HIM THE HOSPITAL NOW!!!" people. I think this is a valid time to do it though. I have run plenty of bullsh*t calls in my day, and this is not one of them.

  2. I always took mine in for a proper head injury - not the a bump on a door frame kind, but anything that involved broken skin cos it's a pretty good bump if that happens.

Take him in and explain what happened and they will probably keep him in overnight for obs and let you go in the morning with nothing but a head injury leaflet.

  3. I'd at least call the pediatrician and see if s/he would like to see your baby.  Better safe than sorry!  Good luck!

  4. I would take him in and get him checked out just in case.  You can never be too safe.

  5. Tiredness is a symptom of concussion. Most doctors will tell a patient with a concussion to just get some rest though - so there's not always the need to go to the hospital. I'm not sure about in such a young child though. See how he is later today then decide.

  6. At the very least, call the dr.  If you're worried, just take him to the er.  Better safe than sorry!
