2 Computers networking...?

Question

Alright guys?

Well...I've got 2 computers.

Computer One is WinXP, Wireless Card

the other is also WinXP, and has no card (it used to be straight cable to the router, but nolonger)...

But i've got a crossover cable now, i plug it into both pc's and it doesn't detect it at all on either computer. What am I doing wrong?

Computer One should obviously be the slave? and the other is using it. But Me and my Dad just can't seem to get it to work, we're both pretty smart when it comes to computers...but now..it's just weird. He's done it before, but forgot now :(

seems like crossovers cable is not good change it dont try to make untill ur not good at this purchase new one

The best linux from learners to super computers is openSuSE (my grandmother can install it). I have it on my machine and we have it on our schools 1280 Cell Processor Super Computer and it works perfect on both. (I'm a computer engineering student)

According to your problem,

First you must see if the cross cable is working. Disable wireless and connect the old machine to the new one. From network settings right click on your ethernet connection select properties then find "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" form the list. Click on properties. Write this ip : 10.0.0.1 and let the mask be 255.0.0.0

Then do the same thing to your old computer but this time write 10.0.0.2 as the ip. Now on your old computer open a folder on your desktop, right click -> properties then enable it for sharing.

Now lets check if the sharing is working. Go to you main computer, click Start -> Run  then type this "\\10.0.0.2" without quotation marks. If it connects then it's working. Now lets get to the internet thing if everything's ok.

1)Connect your main pc to internet with wireless

2)Open network settings

3)Select both your wireless and the ethernet with ctrl pressed

4)Right click, select bridge connections

If every thing goes alright your old computer will connect now. If it doesn't restart both machines. And after the connections are done wait for like 2 minutes (some times it takes time for windows). If it doesn't connect again, ask for more assistance by emailing me.

But of course the easiest way is to buy a wireless dongle to your old one :)

make sure the IP CONFIG is correct and if it is you may need a straight through cable when you say no card do you mean a network card cuz you can't network without a network card

you need to set up a network. go to My Computer and choose my network places and choose view network connections. this will bring up all your current internet connects. now select the set up home or small buissness network and follow the prompts. thats all the further i can remeber myself. sorry if it doesnt work.
