Question:

2 Dogs 2 Cats in Townhouse?

I live in a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath , 2 level townhouse. I currently have 2 small, quiet ,clean cats and a 1yr old Doberman about 75 lbs. My husband and i fell in love with a 3 yr old boxer at our local SPCA and want to make him part of our family. Our concern is space. We always take our dog to the dog park and on walks and to the local fields to run around. We aren't planning on having kids for another couple years. Do you think this is a good idea? Or should we hold off? We both love the breed and would love for our dog to have a friend. Serious Answers only!

  1. it might be a little tight but you can live with it

  2. Space really isn't a concern because dogs adapt !

It sounds like you'll give plenty of  excercise and socialization, so, why not ? GO FOR IT !

  3. Check with your shelter and see if it possible for the Boxer to spend a weekend with you.  This would give some idea of what it might be like to have a new member of the family.  Some shelters are willing to do this.  Also, what is the policy in your townhouse community about the number of pets allowed.  If you are in violation, you could have some problems.

Personally, I think you might be taking on a bit more than you should.  Every home has it's "limit" with pets and people.  You and your husband are really the only ones who can make the decision.

Good Luck!  You and your husband seem to be very responsible and caring owners.

  4. I live in a 3 story townhouse. I currenty have 1 dog and 2 cats... the people down the street from me have 2 great danes, and they manage just fine. If you are in love with this dog, consider adopting!... You have plenty of room i'm sure.

  5. If you can handle another dog and you feel you'd still be comfortable in your house, go for it.
