  1. Write "Effective (date 2 weeks from now) I resign my position with Burger King.  I appreciate the opportunitied I have been given", sign it, and give it to your supervisor.

It would be better to type it or print it from your computer, but if that isn't practical, handwritten is OK.

  2. Good for you for being smart to give your employer 2 weeks notice!  Not only is it the right thing to do but it will leave a good impression in case you need a reference in the future.

Keep your resignation notice simple and do not talk too much.  Your employer is not your mom or dad and does not need to know all the details of why you are leaving or how you made your decision.

Say something like this: "Mr. Smith, I am giving you my 2 week notice.  August 15 will be my last day.  I've liked working here and hope that if I need a reference in the future, I can contact you."

You can always add a comment like "Thank you for giving me this opportunity."

Remember that some employers like to receive notice in writing.  Burger King might not be one of them but - it will not hurt you to put it in writing; its good practice for the future and, again, it will help you be remembered if you ever need that reference.

    Good luck!

  3. K8 covered it pretty well but let me add a couple things always speak with your manager or immediate supervisor and tell them face to face and then give them the letter. always print three copies, 1 for you, 1 for your immediate supervisor and 1 for HR/owner/General manager.
