2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters: Tuesday’s Preview
A total of four matches will be contested on Today’s schedule of the play at the 2010 Shanghai Rolex Masters tennis tournament.
The first match will highlight Andy Roddick from America and Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany. Second up on stadium court will be a first time encounter between Ze Zhang and Ivan Ljubicic. The top Chinese contender is making his Shanaghai Rolex debut. He
was defeated in the first round of qualifying back in 2009 at the hands of Thomaz Bellucci from Brazil in two sets. The final match score was 6-2, 6-1. Zhang was ranked number 590 at that time. The 20-year-old Zhang has played some good tennis this year as
he also triumphed in the China #2 Futures back in March and was also a finalist at the Israel #2 Futures during the month of February and the Korea #3 Futures one month later.
The 31-year-old Ivan who was ranked number thirty seven back in 2009 is the number two Croat behind Marin Cilic who is ranked number fifteen in the world by the Association of tennis professionals. He is coming off his semi-final appearance at the 2010 China
Open Men’s singles competition last week. It was his best result since capturing the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Indian Wells title during the month of March. He enjoys a match record of 20-15 on the year. Ivan also broke a three-match opening round losing
streak with a victory over the world number eight Youzhny on last Tuesday in Beijing. He has so far played against a total of hundred top ten players in his career with an overall mark of 38-62. He also took part in the Davis Cup ties and lost to Novak Djokovic
in the opening rubber.
Next up is the eleventh seed David Ferrer versus Michael Llorda. The 28-year-old Ferrer from Spain defeated Richard Gasquet in the opening round before falling down to Feliciano Lopez in a three-setter clash in the next round of the Shanghai Rolex back in
2009. Ferrer is coming off his fourth ATP World Tour final in 2010 at the China Open last week in Beijing. He stands at 1-3 in the finals this season. The Spaniard won his eighth career crown at Acapulco this season and was also a finalist in Rome and Buenos
Aires. Ferrer is currently ranked number eight in the world by ATP and is attempting to qualify for his second year ending Barclays ATP World Tour Finals in London. He enjoys a match record of 52-19 on the season.
The 30-year-old Llorda, on the other hand, successfully qualified for the Shanghai last season; however, couldn’t even win his opening round clash, falling to Tommy Robredo in two sets. The left hander is currently ranked number twenty eight in the world
and is coming off a match record of 24-17 on the season. His best results this year have been his fourth and fifth career trophy at Marseille and Eastbourne in February and June respectively. David however, triumphed in the pair’s only clash comfortably in
two sets in the opening round in Miami earlier in 2010.
The seventh seed Tomas Berdych and Tommy Robredo are the last one on Stadium court in a second round clash on Tuesday. Both of them are tied in their head-to-head encounter at 3-3 and this will be their first match in 2010.
The top Czech player Berdych was defeated in the third round in Shanghai by Simon last year. He has so far made his way into the quarters or better on eleven occasions in 2010. However, Berdych is the only contender in the top ten list who has yet to capture
an ATP World Tour crown in 2010.
The 28-year-old Robredo, who won his first round match against Albert Montanes in two sets on Sunday, currently enjoys a match record of 20-21 on the year. His best result this season is a semi-final appearance in Bastad earlier in July. He has also reached
the quarter final in three championships so far in 2010. Tommy is currently ranked number forty three in the world and is coming off his quarter final run at the Open de Moselle last month in Metz.
