I just wondered, with my car insurance, do I contact my insurer when im 25 to get my premium down or do I need to wait until my renewal comes up in May the following year? Or will it automatically renew, if so when? Thanks

  1. You have two options

Immediately you are 25 you cancel your insurance and then get new quotes.

Wait until your insurance runs out and then get new quotes.

Staying with the same insurer might not be a good idea, you should shop around every year.

  2. I was wondering that too cos I'm in the same boat! I'm just gonna call up my insurance company and find out what the best thing to do is!!

  3. Sorry, but it won't make one jot of difference.

The only thing you can do is shop around each time you have to renew, DO  NOT stay with the same company every year, they rely on customer loyalty  and rip you off as a result.

You could try asking, and tell them you're going to move. It won't be your age, but the threat of moving that will get you a reduction.

  4. Wait for renewal

  5. To be honest, reaching 25 doesn't make THAT much difference - it's a bit of an urban myth. And your insurance company know how old you are because they need your birthday when you apply in the first place. Your premium is likely to reduce slightly and gradually with age but there's not some sudden HUGE drop when you hit a certain age, it goes on a lot more than that - no claims bonus is a bigger factor - you could be 24 and have 5 or 6 years NCB and have a heck of a lot cheaper insurance than a 25 year old with 2 or 3 years NCB.

The only GOOD thing about turning 25 is that more insurers will become available for you - because they only insure over 25's their prices are sometimes a little cheaper.

Be careful though - if you do cancel your insurance in Oct then you might have to pay a fee (or they will just not give you the exact amount owed back to you) work it out and if this fee is more than you would save by switching, stick where you are til next May.

Welcome to the joys of getting old :)

    my commiserations

  7. One of my friends asked me this kind of questions before,I found helpful here.http://car-insurance.bestips.info/car-in...

  8. Why not give them a call today and ask?  They should give you the information you need... if there is no change to your policy once your reach 25yrs with your existing insurer, then shop around and find one that gives you an age-related discount!!

(Can't tell if you are man/woman... but if woman... have you tried Diamond??)

  9. With an answer like that to sydn3y, I guess you suffer from road rage as well, so I wouldn be expecting to hold a low premium for long anyway.
