My dog is a Golden Retriever almost 2y. old and yesterday night some german shepard has came into my yard and mated with her. I couldn't do anything to stop them, cuz i was sleeping. I heard noise and i woke up. So i saw my little doggie being forced. :( :( :( what can I do now? It is not ok for her to deliver dogs, so early in her life. Can anyone tell me, what can I do to prevent some danger or tho help somehow. I feel so bad that this has happened. Please tell me how can I help my dog somehow.... thanx a lot

  1. Best thing you can do is get your dog in for an emergency spay at your vet. That will help her more than anything.

I guess you learned the hard way you never leave a dog in heat outside unattended.

Edit: Attended means you outside with her holding her on a leash. Not her chained up all on her own. Several dogs could have got to her while you slept and quite possibly did. This is why you really do need to get her spayed right away.

  2. The obvious answer is that she should have been spayed by 6 months old to have avoided having her breed when you didn't want her to and to avoid having unwanted puppies in the world, which makes me sad.  Shelters are overrun with puppies that will have to be put down because no one wants them.   However, that doesn't solve your current problem.

Actually a 2 year old dog is not too young to deliver puppies.  At around a year old, dogs reach their physical maturity.  She should be just about at her peak for breeding.  So, your dog shouldn't be in any danger because of her age, and, assuming she is healthy and has no unusual conditions, the pregnancy and delivery shouldn't harm her.

Also, it's unlikely that your pet was being forced to mate.  While it may have looked that way, she was no doubt a willing participant.  For the preservation of the species, animals that reproduce sexually have a strong desire to mate when they are in heat, which your female obviously was.  The urge is so strong that males will come from great distances and hurdle fences, etc., to get to females in heat.  It is possible for her to mate again during this same heat cycle and be impregnated by a second male, too, so you should probably keep her indoors until she is out of heat, since the fence isn't working.

At this point, there isn't much to be done about it.  You should take her to the vet and let him/her know what has happened.  He might recommend terminating the pregnancy and spaying her now.

In any case, have her spayed before this happens again.  Mature females have heat cycles about every 6 months, so you will be facing this same scenario every six months if you don't have her spayed. Typically dog owners can find low cost spay and neutrer clinics that make it affordable.  As a responsible dog owner, you need to do this to take proper care of your pet and avoid pet overpopulation.

  3. She's not too young but as I assume she's not been tested for genetic problems and hip scored (especially important) she could produce some very sickly puppies that may get hip dysplasia. The best thing you can do is to get an emergency spay done. If your female was in heat she shouldn't have been outside unattended and certainly not where another dog could get to her.

    EDIT:

Being on a chain is not attended - a person needs to be around a female in heat. A male dog will find any way to get to a female in heat, your fence is obviously not secure enough. Get a spay - it's a lot cheaper and safer than ending up with possibly even 10 puppies with HD.
