Question:

3 year old eats his fuzzies?

This will sound weird, but my 3 year old honestly eats the fuzzies off his blankets. I have tried taking away all his blankets that he can pick and he will do it to clothing, even the carpet. He rolls it between his fingers for a minute and then puts it in his mouth and swallows it. He has done this since he was 6 months old. Has anyone else heard of this?

  1. Um, you may want to check this link it is about an eating disorder in children called PICA, http://kidshealth.org/parent/emotions/be...

  2. i used to do that as a child

  3. It could possibly be pica, but if he started at 6 months old, wouldnt that be a tad young for pica? It seems to me, it could possibly just be habit formed now. I mean Im not a dr. so I dont honestly know, pica is kind of like colic as far as the way its diagnosed.. You got a baby that cries a lot, and you cant figure out why, its automatically colic. A baby thats eats non food items, consistently has pica. And more times, its neither one. As long as you know he has no other mental disablilities, and he is getting the proper nutrition, I wouldnt worry about pica. Just try what you can to keep the fuzzies away. Anything my 3 y/o puts in his mouth, that isnt food, I tell him,,,eeww thats poo poo,,, and thats the only thing that works for me. Thats how I got him to leave ciggrette ashes alone finally, lol. But it is better to be safe than sorry, if it would put your mind at ease, maybe give his pediatrician a ring :) Hope this helps...

  4. no. but try taking him to a psycatrist or a doctor, they might help, or if he has teeth, give him a lollipop when he start to do it, then thatll make him stop, or give him one when he DOESNT do it, your choice.

  5. sounds like a pica, you'd better go to the doctor and see what they can do about it.
