  1. 3x-2= 4(x-2)

    First, distribute the 4 to eliminate the parentheses. Multiply both the x and the -2 by 4.

    3x-2= 4x -8

    Then add 8 to both sides. This gets rid of the -8 on the right side, and changes the -2 on the left side to 6.

    3x +6 = 4x

    Next, subtract 3x from  both sides.  This eliminates the 3x on the left side, and changes 4x to 1x, or just x.

    6 = x

    The answer is x=6.

    Note: the user named ems may be in an advanced math class, but she simply copied the equation wrong. (3x -3 instead of 3x-2.)

  2. 3x-2=4(x-2)

    3x-2=4x-8

    3x-4x=-8+2

    -x=-6

    x=6

  3. first foil the x giving you 3x -2 = 4x -8.

    Then add 8 giving you 3x +6 =4x

    Then subtract 3x giving you x.

    6 = x

  4. 3x-2=4(x-2)

    3x-2=4x-8

    3x-4x=-8+2

    -x=-6

    x=6

    try checking the answer by substituting it to the equation

  5. 3x-3=4x-8

    -1x=-5

    x=5

    simple as that...i don't know where the heck these other people got their answers. this is correct...i am in advanced math...should know

  6. x=6

  7. 3x -2= 4(x - 2)

    3x-2=4x-8

    3x-4x=-8+2

    -x=-6

    x=6

    i think i am correct i am not sure.

  8. 3x-2=4x-8

    -2=x-8

    6=x

  9. 3x-2=4(x-2)

    3x-2=4x-8

    -3x   -3x

    -2=x-8

    +8    +8

    6=x

  10. 1).  Distribute the 4 to the (x-2).  By this I mean give the 4 to the x and a 4 to the 2.  This gives you the equation 3x - 2 = 4x - 8.

    2).  Combine like terms.  This means to combine 4x and 3x because they both have a common term, x.  Then you can combine the -8 and -2 because they are both just numbers.  You have to pay attention to the signs in front of the number.  To combine 3x and 4x, you must first subtract 3x from both sides.  This leaves you with - 2 = x - 8.  Then add 8.

    Your final answer is 6 = x.

    You can check this by plugging 6 for x in the original equation.

    3(6) - 2 = 4(6-2)

    18 - 2 = 24 - 8

    16 = 16  It works, and therefore x is 6

  11. 3x -2 = 4x - 8

    3x - 4x = -8 + 2

    - x = - 6

    x = 6

  12. 3x - 2 = 4(x - 2)

    3x  - 2 = 4x - (4*2)

    3x - 2 = 4x - 8

    3x - 4x = -8 - (-2)

    -1x = -8 + 2

    -1x = -6 (divide both sides by -1)

    x = 6

  13. the answer is 1.5=x.

    first you want to foil the 4(x-2)...which gives you 4x-8

    the subtract 3x from both sides leaving you with -2=4x-8

    add 8 to both sides leaving you with 6=4x

    divide by 4 on both sides (or multiply by 1/4)

    you then have 6/4 or 1.5

    3x-2 = 4(x-2)

    3x-2 = 4x-8

    -3x       -3x

    -2 = 4x-8

    +8      +8

    6 = 4x

    /4    /4

    6/4 = 1.5

  14. 3x -2= 4(x - 2)

    3x -2= 4x - 8)

    -2= 4x -3x -8

    -2+8 = 4x - 3x

    6= x

  15. This is Equation question; so..

    Small letter x means 'times' and Capital X is real X that you want..

    3X -2= 4(X - 2)

    3X-2 = (4 x X) +(4x-2)

    3X-2 = 4X-8

    Arrange X stuff and Number differently.. I mean 'X' stuff to 'number'.. anyway, you have to kick /move any numbers beside/next to 'X' to the other sid and remember that those numbers' mark such as '-' or '+' is going to be change once they move to the other side.

    Let say 3X into a basis / standard.. I hope I know enough English...anyway..3X marks remain + because it is a basic in this case. We also 4X as a basic if you want.. Anyway 3X is not going to change it's + marks. However, 4X which is in the other site have to join to 3X so in this case 4X' marks is going to change its mark into minus(-). The number next to 3X is kicked out to the other side so that it's marks going to change into Plus(+).   So, here we go..

    3X-4X = 2-8  or

    Lets say 4X as a basic / standard numbers then,

    -2+8 = 4X-3X  or it doesn't matter you put this way too

    4X-3X = +8 -2

    So the answer is   X=6

    There are several ways to get the answers... I know it is not easy for those students who don't understand the basic rule to figure the answers and that is why I explained in detail. I hope it will be a piece of cake for you in the future..

  16. 3x-2=4(x-2) multiply the 4 to the parenthesis... you'll get

    3x-2 = 4x-8  get the x's on the same side

    -2=4x-8-3x

    8-2=4x-3x  subtract like quantities

    8-2 = x

    6 = x
You're reading: 3x -2= 4(x - 2)?
