  1. Five days is a lot to spend in Geneva.

But you will want to visit a couple of museums.

You have to go to the Hotel des Armures for fondue.

You can rent a boat and tour the lake to admire where the wealthy live.

There is a great steak place called l'Entrecote.  Bring all your money.

The Old Town is very charming.

And there is lots of shopping.

From Geneva you can easily take a side trip to Annecy which is a beautiful French city on one of the clearest lakes.

  3. nearby Lausanne is the 2nd major French-speaking city in Switzerland; i believe it's less than 1h from Geneva by train.  the Olympic Museum in Lausanne is pretty interesting.  there're some pretty impressive architecture in Lausanne as well: the cathedrale, Palais de Rumine, etc.  the old town is very nice as well (lot of shopping), though it's on the hilly side.

Vevey is also along Lac Leman (aka Lake of Geneva), but has better views of the lake and Alps beyond compared to Lausanne.  it's also the deathplace of Charlie Chaplin, and you can find a statue and park dedicated to him along the shoreline.  a stroll along the lakeshore, complete with clear water and swans, is incredibly picturesque.

from Vevey, Montreux is only a few minutes away, and houses Switzerland's most famous castle, the Chateau de Chillon.  it's worth a visit, just for its place in Swiss history (and popularity among tourists).

Zermatt is worth considering, if you want to see the Matterhorn.  you'll be in the western portion of the country anyway (though the train ride from Geneva will be at least 3h).  quick stops on the way to Zermatt that i'd suggest include Martigny (lots of Roman-era relics and buildings) and Brig (there's a great castle on  amazing, vast grounds).  both of these small cities are set against the backdrop of mountains, so it's quite a sight on a beautiful day.  (i would not spend loads of time in Martigny and Brig though, and instead see these places on your way to Zermatt -- a few hours is enough, because frankly, other than what i noted already, they're not the most interesting cities otherwise).
