  1. 5k is just a little over 3 miles. Especially if it isnt a competitive 5k, you won't need any special tips or ideas for such a small race.

    HERE ARE SOME ANYWAY:

Most people eat spaghetti the night before because it doesnt provide energy until the next day.

    Light stretch on warm muscles

Drink water before (Sport drinks won't provide you with much before the race but they can replace electrolytes afterwards.

  2. I dont like to eat anything before a 5K.  When you have food in your stomach the blood will be focused on that for digestive purposes.  When you start to run that same blood is going to be needed in your running muscles.  Thats how you usually end up with a cramp or stitch.  So if you have to eat something make sure it is at least two hours before.  And i agree with the other post no dairy.  some sips of water through out the morning is fine, usualy the nerves will make you a bit thirsty but sipping here and there through the morning will help with that.  chugging a quart of water before the run will just slosh you down....  Good Luck!!

  3. A 5k isn't that far. It won't stress your body any more than a normal 20-30 minute run, so eat whatever you would normally eat.

  4. Make sure to eat carbs the night before. Many people choose to eat pasta, but baked potatoes offer the same amount of complex carbohydrates with additional vitamins and minerals. On the race day, eat something very light in the morning. I tend to shy away from dairy and dense foods. Dairy products can make you cramp up, but it varies from person to person. Hydration is pretty important, as well and you can't go wrong with water.

  5. drink a lot of water and eat a bagel

  6. Crab up the night before. No alcohol or cafine and eat something light about 1/2 before the race, like a banana and a cup of oatmeal. Drink pleanty of water but make sure you pee about 10 minutes before the start. Thats my routine and I always do okay. Don't stress out over a 5k. They are alot of fun and most are like events or parties. Just have fun!
