6 nations B?

a while ago i heard about a six nations b tournament including teams like portugal and spain. is this true? what do you know about it and why isnt it somehow connected to the proper 6 nations tournament.

Its one of these rumours thats been banded around for a while!

Portugal,Romania,Argentina have all been toted as names for such a tournament.

Why Argentina haven't been offered a place in a yearly championship somewhere is beyond me !!

Their easily the best team in the world that aren't.

Your question has been answered, but there is also the pacific Nations tournament that includes the pacific islands of fiji Samoa Japan, and also Canada.

Argentina were hoping to get into the tri nations, but that has been ruled out now for at least 3 years. The other Option for Argentina is to play in an expanded 6 Nations, and play out of Spain. This is actually more sensible because all of their players are playing either in France or England.

Calls have been made to expand the 6N into a 2 tier tournament, but to be honest I can't see it happening anytime soon. The next big move will be an expanded Heineken cup possibly ending up in an elite Euro league. Both the french and English will do,minate it though and leave the celtic nations out in the cold. Again the obstacle is that while the Players want it (both french and English players have VERY powerful unions that are currently at war with the governing union), while the players want it, the french domestic tournament and the English guiness premiership are too lucrative for the lcubs, so there is a 3 way split between clubs, players and unions .:-(

Such a competition does exist and is called the European Nations Cup. Is played over two years with each team playing each other home and away.
