Engine Performance problem

1965 Chevy Truck 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Manual

--------------------------------------...

I have a 1965 chevy truck with a 230 straight six motor and rochester 1bbl carb. I have rebuilt the carb and put new air filter and pcv valve in... when I hit the accelerator it wants to stall out. I can feather the pedal to keep it running but everytime I press the pedal it wants to stall till I feather and then go... I adjusted the idle mixture and speed but nothing makes it any better. Any ideas?

  1. my first guess is accelorator pump but if you rebuilt the carb with new parts(which i hope you did) it should have included a new pump.did you soak the carb while it was COMPLETELY apart in carb acid? just spraying it with canned carb cleaner wont cut it.it sounds like the orifices are plugged.another possiblity is a weak fuel pump

an afterthought...does it do this even after the engine is warmed up? it could be the choke is not working.

  2. i agree with doug that its the orifices clogged and i would check the timing a little  . GOOD LUCK!!!!

  3. I had a similar problem on a 70 El Camino, it was that there was no fuel filter, so no matter how many times I took apart the carb it always screwed up. you can try that.

  4. Accelerator pump in carb still not working, need to focus on that, so back in the carb you go...
