Why should this be considered a distraction? Our soccer team gets heads shaved yr into mohawks the wrestling team got mohawks in high school and bleached them a few yrs back?

Are schools out of hand with the dress code stuff?

I find this public humilation for the child school should be held accountable.

  1. That's crazy, especially at a public school!... a lot of little kids have Mohawks...My son gets one each summer,(around May) and keeps it till the weather turns cold. he goes to school that way at least till November in the fall.... there has to be more to the story than just the haircut. They have no right to undermine the parent's decision on ANYTHING concerning their child.

  2. The kid was suspended for not complying 3 times.  Follow the rules or you don't get to attend school.  A 6-yr. old doesn't know how stupid he looks; this one is the parent's fault.

  3. It's happening everywhere, you're just gonna have to deal with it... Everywhere is getting stricter, like girls can't wear thongs incase they show and stuff!

    Sad but true

  4. the whole country is out of hand with every thing kids can't even walk in to a mall with a hoodie on. there is so many things that are out of control but a school policy is school policy you can't get around it. not much you can do unless you start a petition to change it.  start a petition have the whole school sign it. and then submit it to the school board. see what happens. people need to realize that we have the power to change things.  we have all the power. and need to stand up for our selves more often.

  5. I agree that the schools are becoming more of a dictatorship then a democratic educational establishment. As long as he is clean and is presentable then no one should fringe on his right to wear his hair which ever way he wants to.. Our society is becoming more and more controlled by people who only see one way of thinking. Even tho he is only 6yrs old he still has rights like anyone else. As long as he isnt hurting anyone and is going to school and learning then no one should complain...

  6. Apart from an increased likelihood of bullying I can't see how a haircut will affect your school years.

Bit over zealous on the schools part in my opinion.

  7. yeah really I agree I mean is this what is all comes down to? we have people shooting other people in school and they are worried and using time on the way someone is cutting there hair? I think this country is just messed up like that but if they are the next ones to have tragity they can be happy to know they sure focused on the hair deal and stopped that from happening

  8. Honestly, at this young age, with a mohawk?  I just don't see how it is ONLY the child's choice to wear his hair like that.  It seems there is parental influence.  My daughter went to pre-k with a boy whose hair was not only dyed but buzzed to a specific style.  I'm sorry for not believing a 3-4 year old chose that style on his own.  And we need to keep in mind our appearance is important.  People do judge others on looks alone.  What does a 6 year old with a mohawk make you think of?  Schools are sometimes forced to create rules which alleviate peer pressure rather than increase it.

  9. No, it shouldn't.   Our school system has gotten ridiculous about this sort of thing also.  A teen girl in our church was suspended because she is a blond and couldn't get all of the pink hair spray out of her hair the day after Halloween.  You also can't have visible piercings in our school system either.  I think it is ridiculous and undermines a parent's rights to make decisions like this for their children.

All of this has happened in our school system in the 10+years since I graduated.  I went to school with hot pink hair when I was 16 years old.  Teachers threw a fit about it.  Principal said as long as my hair didn't interfere with my school work, he didn't care.

  10. Thats g*y, they have no right to tell us how we can cut our childs hair!

  11. Why the heck does a 6yr old need a Mohawk? Have you ever been in a class full of 6yr olds? A new pair of shoes is a distraction for them. I think the parent was irresponsible for letting the child get in trouble for something as stupid as a haircut. If you are going to do something abnormal to your kids head you should check dress code first.

  12. I was called in to my childs school because she wore a rosary around neck, and when they told her to take it off she refused, and told them she would put it inside her shirt, but she was not taking her cross off.  They suspended her for 1 day, and she got 2 days in school suspention.  I picked her up, and took her shopping.

  13. private and charter schools have weird rules. its different then public schools and anything they don't like instantly becomes "distracting" but they offer better educations.

  14. i think thats bull c**p ..

  15. Mohawks are anti-establishment, unless he's an American Indian.  He's too young to rebel - he doesn't even know what it means at that age.

  16. Mohawk!  Ew!

It's the same reason why they don't allow kids to wear bandanas, red/blue laces, etc.

It's a huge distraction & it can also be to help your child.... with a mohawk he could be picked on OR LABELED.. and you do NOT want that.. Other children may think he's racist or something terrible.. these are kids afterall.. they aren't grown men/women.. so they may retaliate.

  17. wow yh ur right

  18. If schools have a dress code, you follow it.

    End of story

  19. yes many are out of hand

  20. At out school you even get put in iisolation for shaving your head and dying it ! ITS OUR CHOICE! i THINK ITS SO UNFAIRR. Its not up to the teachers...why do they think they can rule our lives ?!

  21. Schools are going crazy lately.  I think it has to do with the shift towards conservatism these past eight years.  I'm not blaming Bush or Republicans or anything like that.  The United States just seems to shift between being conservative and liberal, between being very traditional and very accepting.

  22. well while I think a hair cut is just a hair cut I do think if the school has a policy then that is that. If the kid was older I might feel slightly different but the kid is only 6 and probably couldn't care less how his hair was cut so to me this is just a parent being stubborn.
