My daugher is a little over 7 months. She has 4 ounces formula in the morning at 7, 4-6 ounces at 10 oclock, vegetable cereal at 12 ish, 4 ounces at 2, and then 2-6 ounces at 3 and then wont eat again till 6:30 at which time she has a 6oz bottle with oatmeal in it. If I try to feed her any more she refuses, same thing happens at daycare. If she's refusing to eat is that fine or should I be forcing her to consume more food. She's still on stage one foods.

  1. i think its enough...be sure u include all food groups in her meal!!

if her weight gain is fine n activity normal then nothing to worry!!!!

A baby can have up to 32 ounces of formula per day. In addition, he can have as much in the way of solids, water, or juice as he wants to supplement this. The mealtime formula is usually given at the end of the meals, to top off the solids in a comfortable and easy way. Even though the solids are now playing a larger role, the breast milk or formula still provides the core of the nutritional needs. If a baby begins to regularly take less than about 20 ounces per day, you might want to offer the bottle first and then solids.

Thirst is an extremely strong drive. As long as a baby’s own regulating mechanism isn’t tricked by getting too much juice or water, healthy babies will take enough formula or breast milk to meet their nutritional needs. This is one good reason not to put juice in the bottle.

Let your baby set the pace, but if he continues to consistently take more than 32 ounces or less than 20 ounces, run it by your pediatrician.

  3. You can not force them to eat.  I am surprised though that she is not wanting to eat more fruits and veges.  I personal would try and cut down on the smaller feedings and try for less feedings with more food, but again, if that is the only way she'll do it you really have no choice.

  4. I wonder why you are putting cereal in her bottle at 7 months she should be eating that alone. She should also be having some fruits now to,

  5. Well, you can't force her to eat more food.  If she's happy with what she's getting, then she's eating the right amount for her.

The only thing I would change is to stop putting cereal in her bedtime bottle.  Solids are fed with a spoon; bottles are for formula or pumped breastmilk.

  6. Babies bodies typically know how many calories they need to be consuming, so don't force her to eat.

Unless there are concerns with weight gain- let her eat what she'll take.

  7. it sounds like you give her too many afternoon feeds..she is having a lot of milk then not wanting solids til quite late as she is full of milk still.

try just one 4 to 6 oz feed at 2.30 /3  and then she should take food at 5 , then you can give her milk again at 7 ready for bed,,

Saying all that,, i wouldn't worry too much,, some breastfeeding books say as long as they get milk for the first year, then giving solids can be a very slow process. as long as they are gaining weight and seem healthy then take it at your own speed.

  8. Leave her be hon. she's fine. baby's know when they are full. dont force her to over eat, that's how they pick up that bad habit for later in life.

her tummy is only as big as her fist is. some babies eat more, some less. my older boys used to eat like a horse as a toddler. my daughter eats very little, but she's healthy. my youngest son is a bit of a piggy too. every baby is different. as long as she is gaining weight she's fine.

    edit:

encouragement is great! sometimes the way i encourage my 2 yr old to try new things or eat a bigger meal is by eating it with her. kids are funny sometimes. the only way i can get my toddler to eat salad or some veggies is by making a larger portion and acting like it's "momma's lunch" then she all the sudden wants a bite too. lol it works.
