717 or a319?

Hi.

Which aircraft, the 717 or the A319 is more efficient? I suspect a new A319, but i would appreciate your professional opinion.

In what cases would having a fleet of 717s be more effective than an equal sized fleet of A319s? What types of flights? 717 is short range, last i checked.

Well from a efficency (not just fuel) standpoint  the Airbus319's but the Boeing/Mcdonald douglas is kind of a diffrent aircraft. It Is seen more of like a regional jet view.It really depends on what you are using the aircraft for , but the 717 would be better if you are just doing regional hops.

You are comparing apples to oranges here.

The markets served by the 717 tend to be shorter and lighter.  If you are dealing with a 400NM flight carrying 100 passengers, the 717 will be far more efficient.  However if you are going 1000NM and carrying 150 passengers, the A319 will be more efficient.

They are designed for different markets and serve different city pairs.  So the answer to your question is...YES.

The A319 holds more people than the 717 and the A319 has more range. If your doing shorter hops the 717 is better but for longer routes that require more range the A319 is better because it can carry more passengers and cargo efficiently. Thats the reason an airline like Hawaiian ordered it over the A319 or any of its competitors because it suited their shorter missions better than an airline like Northwest that is going to have flights on the aircraft of up to 4-5 hours. Where as Hawaiian Air has a max flight time on their 717s of up to 1-1.5 hours.
