A Backwards Riding Bike?

Is there any type of bike that when you pedal forwards, you go forwards, but when you pedal backwards, you go backwards and not just brake? If so, is it in production? Can I get one?

  1. This does not answer your question, but might help you.  If you put the rear wheel on backwards then turn the crank around, thus putting the sproket on the other side, it will pedal backwards. You can set on the handle bars and go frontwards.  You may want to try this with an old bike before spending any money

  2. That would be a fixed-gear bicycle. You cannot freewhel and so if the rear wheel is moving, the cranks will also be moving.

edit - Bicycle Bob doesn't know what he's talking about. Putting the rear wheel on backwards and then swapping the cranks (and chain)over will still mean that pedalling normally will drive the bike forward. Think about it.

  3. Fixed Gear Bicycles do this.  They are in vogue right now so any bicycle shop should have access to them.
