Question:

A HUMMING Peavey Classic 30

Hi All. I have a Peavey Classic 30 guitar amplifier, with all the original components within it. Recently it has ceased to operate normally (I cannot hear the guitar) and when I turn it on it literally hums, at first softly, but then ever increasing (I switch it off after about 4-5 seconds as it sounds like it is about to explode). This humming occurs whether or not I have all, any, or none, of the volume/effects settings active. I have the amplifier plugged in directly to the outlet, and no external devices between it and the guitar. Is anyone aware as to what the problem may be? Is this something a person with a basic understanding of electronics and possession of a soldering iron could fix...or should I head off to a repair shop? Thanks in advance for your advice. Ari
