Question:

A few questions about some subs?

So basically... I have two 10's I'm going to try and put into the trunk of a '96 Ford Probe. One is a Memphis, which I'm guessing is called a Memphis 10 but I forgot the name of the other one. They're both in a real nice speakerbox but they're not hooked up. I'm not looking to be the best bumping on the block I just want my system to sound good. So how important is an amp and where could I get one and a wiring kit? I wanna try and get it as cheap as possible because I don't want to spend a lot of money on something little like this..

- Is an amp a necessity?

- Where can I get a cheap amp and wiring kit?

- How many watts do I need for two 10's?

Help is appreciated.

  1. You can find a cheap wiring kit online at http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/... If you don;t want to wait look for a stereo sop in your area or just go to walmart. Whatever you do. Get the biggest gauge power wire you can afford. Go with 4 gauge minimum.

An amp is absolutely necessary. You will never be able to power subs from a head unit.

Since I don't really know anything about the subs themselves. I can't really recommend an amplifier. All I can recommend is to take the subs out of the enclosure and get the model numbers. After that look them up on any search engine.

Being that you seem to have two different subs You'll probably run into a snag. It's really hard to guess if you can wire them together off of one amp. Make sure that they are similar in voice coil configuration and wattage. If they are not at least similar you will have a really hard time wiring them together. If they are very different you may need to get two separate amps to run them individually. for instance if you have one dual voice coil sub and one single voice coil sub(not really the worst case), You'll have a hard time figuring out the final impedance. In the worst case. If you have two subs that are of differing wattage you'll have to go with double the wattage of the lower sub to be able to power them without blowing the one with less wattage.

  2. you need an amp with at least 100 amps

go to walmart if you want to stay cheap

  3. An Amp is important overwise it wont sound good to be honest and you wont get that much power to you subs at all.

Your local car accesseries or Halfords so,ething like that will have a wiring kit for you.

I think to run two subs get about a 400 - 600 and if you budget isn't pushed then higher if you can.

Make sure you have a bass box for the subs if you want it to sound bassy thenmake sure you have one for them or one each depending on how you want it to look lol.

If you end up getting two amps for some reason get a power block save you running two power cables through the car.

Also put the ACR and the Remote wires ( from head unit) down one side of the car and the power cable the otherside so you get no interference in the system.

Good luck and enjoy :) lol

  4. yes an amp is necessary.

    walmart has cheap ones.

it depends on how many watts ur sub is. find that out first.

and im prettyy sure probes are hatchbacks so ur system will be louder to u cuz the bass waves bounce off ur back window.. i have a camaro and my stuff sounds loud in my car wen the trunk is shut.. wen it opens it gets alot quieter

  5. - Is an amp a necessity?

    - Where can I get a cheap amp and wiring kit?

    - How many watts do I need for two 10's?

yes an amp is needed because a radios internal amp is not powerful enough for subs

here are some places to look for cheap prices http://www.sonicelectronix.com/ and/or http://www.hifisoundconnection.com/Shop/...

and you cant just go hooking up amps and subs all willy nilly, you need to have the correct RMS (continuous) wattage at the correct impedance (ohms) at the amp--- if you don't match the amp and subs correctly you could damage/destroy your amp and/or subs

info NEEDED to PROPERLY match an amp to subs

the subs voice coil setup (DVC or SVC)

    the subs impedance (ohms)

the final impedance at the amp (how the subs are wired)

    the number of subs

    the subs RMS (continuous) wattage

    or

    the model numbers

  6. First off let me begin by saying race your an ***. The guy is looking for advice, not sarcasim. Find a different site if that is how you want to be, other wise leave the answering to people that actually know.

Now for the question at hand. First those subs are not going to sound good, 2 different manufacturers with 2 different sets of specs; not a good equation for something to sound good. As for good amps at low cost, check out www.woofersetc.com    and www.onlinecarstereo.com

Cruch amps are good ( made my maxxsonics who make HI-FONICS, and MB QUART) but are low cost. For a couple of subs that match check into www.edesignaudio.com

their subs are low cost and pound. Low cost since you cut out the middle man, direct from their factory and they are hand made. Look into the Ov line. You will not regret it. Then amp will need to be at least 500 watts rms for anything decent.
