Question:

A good match? ?

I have always been the ear for friends and strangers alike. I cannot tell you how many times I have met people and five minutes later they are telling me their deepest secrets and fears, their biggest problems. Every time someone does something out of the ordinary or harmful, I always try to analyze why they may have done what they did. I am EXTREMELY empathetic and able to relate to problems, even if I haven't gone through them. I guess I'm more able to relate to the emotions than the problem itself, of course. I'm sensitive to mood changes and people's feelings. I have a way of making friends, family and coworkers feel at ease or at least feel a bit better. People feel very comfortable with me immediately after meeting me, sometimes before!! I feel that I have several talents, and trying to figure out what to do with my life has been a huge puzzle for me. I am leaning towards being a psycho-therapist. Does these qualities sound like it may be a good match, or could I be reading too much into them?

  1. Empathy is indeed a needed attribute for psychotherapists.

However, empathy is a good behavior trait for most vocations and avocations.

So, don't use this one trait as a reason for selecting a specific discipline to study or to make your life's work.

As for your question... yes, it is a good match.
