a horse and two cows together cost $680. find the cost of a cow and a horse if a horse costs $80 more than a cow ??

i did it but im not sure if i did the equation correct

  1. cost of cow = x

    cost of horse = x + 80

    2x + x + 80 = 680

    3x + 80 = 680

    3x = 600

    x = 200


  2. The cows cost 200 each and the horse cost 280.

    Problem solved. I hope this helps, and you understand why, the math, I mean.

    If you take the 80 extra for the horse out of the picture, it leaves 600. Well, 600 divided by 3 is 200. So they all cost at least 200, shove the 80 leftover on the horse and there you have it, honey.
