  4. The most famous legend is the one about the Ayar brothers. The brothers; Ayar Uchu, Ayar Cachi, Ayar Manco, and Ayar Auca came out of a cave named Pacaritambo with their four sisters; Mama Ocllo, Mama Huaco, Mama Ipacura o Cura, and Mama Raua after a flood that destroyed everything. When they saw the devastating scenario, they decided to start a journey with members of 10 Ayllus in order to find a better place to settle down. Ayar Cachi, one of the brothers, was feared because of his magic powers and was imprisoned forever in the Capac Tocco cave.  The remaining 7 siblings continued the journey until they approached Huanacauri. There was a statue of an idol that  Ayar Uchu touched. After he touched it, he was petrified. Eventually Ayar Auca was also petrified. Ayar Manco and his four sisters continued the trip and found Cuzco, where they saw fertile lands. Ayar Manco then decided to stay in this land and establish his empire there in the name of Viracocha and the Sun. Cuzco was the capital of Tahuantinsuyo and home of Machu Picchu, which some believe was the last capital of the empire and others think it was the home of the Ñustas (virgins of the God Sun).
