A question about 'age' etiquette?

I don't generalize all women into this category but...........why is it that women are more prone to not want to give away their age when asked "So how old are you?" as opposed to men?

We men really don't care.........I tell everyone I'm 38 and I have no problem with that.

Thanks,

Primo

  1. Women tend to be vain so revealing her age is uncomfortable. I really don't know why society stigmatizes age as this horrible characteristic. I guess that's just the way it is.

  2. I think women feel more judged for their age. Older men are viewed in a different way- but thats changing. In general, people view women as only being desirable in their 20s or 30s. Then after that, they think she is too old to have children. Of course, this is  not really true. But thats how society can be. Men seem to be judged more on status and money rather than apprearance or age.

  3. Well I tell people my real age thinking it might make a difference, but it doesn't they still treat me like I'm a irresponsible teenager. I'm 32 and I got carded going to one of my friends concerts. It was at a bar and I don't even drink. They thought I was sixteen and it's h**l trying to get a job when you look so young they always ask are you old enough for this position. I kind of have an aversion to speaking to anyone because of it and all the guys that want to date me that are my age are just perverts or are uninterested.

  4. Many adults, both male and female do not like disclosing their age.

People don't like to think about getting older. Revealing their age can make them feel older. Also peple don't want to be discriminated against because of their age.

Some people look much younger than their age, and they hate to let people know they are older.

Why do you ask? You will get along better with people if you don''t. It is kind of like asking people if they dye their hair. I'm sure Miss Manners would agree with me.

Also don't try any lame way of asking like-"when did you graduate from high school?" so you can add 18 years. Also don't ask how old their parents are so you get an idea of their age.

Be more concerned about making people comfortable than trying to get information from them that they may not want to reveal.

  5. Because society has a tendency to look down on the aging female as opposed to the aging male. I think it is because after a certain age women can no longer bear children. But men are capable of being able to make babies up to the age of 100. At least that is the theory.

  6. I find this interesting.  Lets say that a woman is 40 years old.  You ask them their age.  they say 35.  She should look 40.  If she looks 40, you say "gee she looks older than 35!"  If she looks older than 40, she even looks worse for 35!  So, it is bad enough they don't revile their age, but some actually lie and looks worse!  Maybe its because they know men like younger women even though they may look good.  It does not do them any good if they are on a date!  We need to know their age.

  7. I never lie about my age, but I don't go around offering it up either.  I'm 41 and everyone says, that I look like I'm 31 or so.  Why risk telling people I'm 31 , only to have other people say, "Boy, I would have pegged her for more like 40."

  8. That is such a cool way of asking your age isn't it brother. " How many years do you have"

    Wow.I like:)

Regarding the age " thing" with women... whose to know the inner workings of the mind of a woman.. even we women do not know.

I think a lot of it stems from not wanting to feel " old"

Personally I don't care.. I will put my age, that I am 36 years old to anyone who asks.. and even speak of it in a normal way with others. I am thankful for each year to be alive.  My own father didn't live past 29 years... each year that passes where we live is a real blessing from the Lord.

    Greet your sister/wife for us:)

    Take care brother.

    Your sis

    Hehe@ sister Mandy's response ..

    Too cute.

  9. because say like a woman think she looks old but shes really 43.

You ask how old r u?

shes gonna think that you think that shes old!!

    See how well that goes?

  10. I had a problem with it until I turned 40....I think part of it was I was always told a woman shouldn't tell her age and part of it was a fear of getting "old", and having 6 friends go to be with the Lord when I was 39...kind of shook that out of me...You can die at any age....so it really didn't matter any more....so I have no problem telling people I'm 44.

  11. I don't care giving my age, but my mother in law does and no one knows how old she is. I know it's weird. I don't get it either. We should rejoice each year we get older! A year closer to spending eternity with the Lord!! : )

    I am 31!! 31!!! Yeee Haaw! lol
