If one kitten out of a litter is diagnosed negative for feline leukemia are the rest of the kittens in the litter negative?

  1. I think each kitten would need a diagnosis.


  2. Many shelters test one kitten out of a litter in order to save money (they aren't being cheap - they don't have money!).  The thought is that since FeLV is so contagious, if one kitten is negative they are all probably negative.   If the mom cat is with the litter, often they'll just test mom - same thinking.  Still, I'd insist that the particular kitten I was interested in was tested.  

  3. You would have to go to a veterinarian to be sure but it is possible if one of the parents have leukemia.

  4. Each kitten needs to be tested for leukemia and FIV.
