A question about hispanics?

Why do hispanics call their daughters mami? Doesn't that mean mom? also daughters call their mom Ma. . .does the "a" have an accent on it?

"Mami" is a term of endearment, not only for mothers, but for females in general.  It is very common for mothers to call their daughters "mami", and it is often used by males for their wives/girlfriends as well.

Mamá does have a written accent on the final 'a', as does "papá".  This written accent is necessary.  Otherwise, the words take a completely different meaning. (For example:  "papa"=potato; whereas "papá=father)

Finally, "Ma" is a shortened form for "Mamá", again used as a term of endearment, just as it is in English.

Mamá, yes, has an accent, as does papá.  Without the accent, the words mean something else.

Mexicans and some other Latinoamericanos call their kids mami and papi as a term of endearment.  That's what my Tica friend told me.

im half white and half mexican so my mom is mexican. my mom calls me mami and yes it does mean mom but its just like how you can call your child honey, or sweety. i dont cal my mom Ma but my cousins do. its not an actual word its just short for mama. hope i answered your quetion!(:
