A question on small breads?

Question

is there anyone that can tell me what dogs are great for lap dogs but also like running about and are medium sized i will be greatful for anyone who replys

Basenji are relatively quiet, smaller dogs that are affectionate, like people, but are also active.  They're good apartment dogs.

Yorkies are active, fun to play with, but also make great lapdogs.  Caveat: they are terriers and come with the terrier attitude.  If you give them an inch, they will take a foot and control of your home.  If you're not able to be the boss of a 3 pound dog with the attitude of a 130 pound dog, you should pass on the yorkie.  Australian silkies are a little bigger than yorkies, resemble yorkies in appearance.  They're active, fun, and make good lap dogs.  They also have attitudes and can be stubborn, but not as stubborn as a yorkie.

If you have other dogs or people in your household, I'd shy away from chihuahuas.  They are huge amounts of fun, but they're definitely a one person dog in most instances and will be hostile towards others who demand a share of their master's attention, even spouses and children can catch grief from the possessive chihuahua.

Most terrier breeds are really intelligent and will require a lot of discipline, guidance, training, etc.  They're smart and they're willful.  Keeping that in mind, they're also fun, active, and enjoy spending time with their people.  And won't pass up the chance to curl up in a lap and watch tv.

I think shih tzus fit your description pretty well. They can get up to like 12lbs and are very friendly and playful. Mine runs around all day playing with toys, and loves to play fetch and tug of war. But when she gets tired of playing she climbs right on someone's lap and falls asleep or chews on a bone. They have the most adorable faces too!

Your best answer would be a pug. Other medium sized dogs are energetic and like to run around.  A pug is a pillow with legs.

Mmmm, I like mini loaves, they are especially good with spaghetti. LOL.

Maybe a cocker spaniel, or schnauzer.

Yorkies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!... Get a boy cause they love to play and replx on your lap!! I have a yorkie (grl) she is just.. boring and all she likes is being a lap dog. But BOY dogs loves to play and get attention!!!

YOu can get maltese but there really active and FUN so i dont know if they like to be on your lap. I have a mltse my self and she is so crazy she doesnt even know..

I have to agree with the first poster about cocker spaniels. I am quite partial to them. I had 2 sisters for years, they were such wonderful girls. They are very family friendly, they like to play but are not hyper and they are great cuddle buddies and mini couch potatoes. They do have some drawbacks though so before you get one please be aware that they can be prone to problems with eyes, ears, and skin. and have a predisposition for getting thyroid problems. They need regular grooming and tooth care. Some say that they are hard to house train but I don't think any more so than other breeds, that depends on the individual dog. I had 2 littermates and one was always having accidents in the house but the other did not and would sit by the door and squeak when she had to go potty.
