AA in Anthropology?

Question

Right now, I'm a sophomore in high school. I've taken Intro to Physical Anthropology, but I want to either get my AA before I graduate, or the summer before I actually move in to the college. I've talked to my counselor about it, and she said that if I work at it like I do all my other studies, it won't be too hard.

However, I'm not too sure where to start. I attended the last class at our local CC, but the profesor only offers introductory classes. I would like to work on an archaeological degree, but I'm not exactly sure where to go. Do you know of any online courses, and which I should take?

Just read all the questions and answers at the Anthropology Section of Yahoo! Answers, and you will be better educated in Anthropology than anyone with an AA from whatever college...

Online courses aren't very good.  At the AA level, don't worry so much about your major.  A Liberal Arts/General Studies AA will be fine.  I got my AA in General Studies before I got my high school diploma by taking summer and night classes and spending most of my senior year at the local CC.  It's not too difficult.  Remember that all of your credits may not transfer directly and even if they do, you may not get credits towards your major because many colleges really want you to get all of your required classes in your field at their school so they know you've learned their style and can be a credit to their name.  Just take your typical classes - math, science, history, English, foreign language, art history.  That way you can get most of your non-major classes out of the way.  Try to anticipate what will transfer (anything with an equivalent at the AP level and most common intro courses) and get as many of those as possible.  But, if there are classes at the CC that are unique, don't turn them down becuase they won't transfer - Non-Western Art History was the best class I ever took and I got CC credit but had to fight to get it transfered.  In order to fight to get credits transferred, you will need to have the course description and the class syllabus (including the citation for the textbooks) at least.  You may need your papers/tests as well.  Make sure you keep good records until you finish your BA or BS.
