Question:

AFTER-SCHOOL ACTIVITIES: good or bad?

WARNING teachers please do not take offence, its just my opinion WARNING

They say after-school activities, called co-curricular activities or CCA in my country, enhances the students' networking skills, bla bla

Please dont get me wrong

I write 'bla bla' only becuase the schools have just so many reasons for having such activities

Personally Im not against it

BUT

i feel that CCA is not 'that' beneficial to the students

Reason

- CCAs take just a lot of time from student which means less studying time

- the long hours take much energy which could deplet our studies

- without understating its importance, one cannot get university admission without good grades no matter how shiny your co-curricular activities' report looks (agree?)

I admit participating in CCA gives the students many friends and experience

but does it really give students, despite well-managed time, all the benefits?

thanks

  1. They keep you active, which is a good thing.  You may meet new people and go places too.  You just need to be able to balance out your studying and other activities.  Also, they're good for people who come from a disfunctional family.  It's a way for some people to be home less, which is actually good for some people.

  2. idk mabey

  3. I think that an hour of ASA is good.

  4. CCAs are neither good nor bad in and of themselves.  The important thing is a balanced, well-rounded student.  If you are sacrificing learning for the CCAs, they are bad.  If CCAs get you doing something useful to stretch you, they are good.

  5. That's the main point of it, CCAs would really chop a half or more of your time studying. They are good  in a way that, you are able extend help to other people e.g. for student volunteers who help organizing events, programs for the less fortunate, and things like that. But CCAs indeed are time-consuming. and they make you feel exhausted. they kill all the energy left for you to answer your assignments for the next day. If you really find it hard to manage your time, then you have to MAKE A CHOICE. The best thing you do, is to limit your involvements. And weigh your priorities.

    =)

  6. What you are describing sounds like it is forced. I think that they should be offered, but if someone does not want to participate they don't have to. A lot of kids have parents that work and so it is good to offere things for them to do so that they don't get into trouble. Obviously if someone doesn't need this, they don't have to have it.

  7. no all schools do the same thing some help the kids with homework assignment as well its not all play some parents get off work a little later  so they don't want there child at home they know where they at if they have after school activities  i think really and truly it all depends of who is in charge   as well

  8. I don't do any after school activities, and I'm perfectley fine.I have heaps of time to chill out after a c**p day at school, and time to study for exams and do homework and projects.

I also find it annoying when people have music lessions or band ,or SIS sport etc, because when they miss out on important work they don't catch up with the teacher before the next class, and the people who where there have to waste their time listening to the same thing.

  9. i think there good as long as your hw is done

  10. Well it totally depends what kind of after schol program. Extra Curricilar like math club is a learning time for kids to get more math

  11. They say idol hands is devils handy work for trouble u can get into.I think CCA is great because in the long run it helps keepn the kids off the streets and out of trouble. And to be able to connect with others and having the support around the kids helps them to grow and become a rounded individual.Theres alot of children that feel that they can't connect at home with there family for one reason or another and I feel that after school programs helps the child stay out of there shell and keep connecting with others that may have the same problem.they learn from eachother and this helps them emotionally and intellectually.

  12. are you studying in Singapore? (: i know ccas can be a pain sometimes. i recall practicing for a concert three weeks before my prelims. i freaked out. anyway cca records are fairly important. for example if you have exactly the same grades as someone. your participation in cca would be the deciding factor because it will show your ability to dedicate those few years to something you think is important.

oh plus getting A's are so common these days you will need to shine in some other area for people to take notice

maybe you can choose a cca which does something you really love then you would'nt find it so pointless :D
