AK47 and ak74 question

My friend has a really difficult question about the ak74 that I didn't know. If the ak47 holds 30 rounds of 7.62x39mm rounds in it's clip why does the 74 only hold 30 rounds of 5.45x39mm? Basically in other words, if the magazines are the same size and one bullet is wider than the other, why can't you put in more small rounds than large ones?

  1. Mafia means to say the ATK-74 holds more rounds and is sort of like a heavy machine gun version of the AK-47. The AK was created by a private in the Soviet Army in 1947. It was call the AK because his last name was Kalashnikov. Private Kalashnikov later stated that the AK assault rifle was the worst thing he had ever created. That is because the weapon became popular with terrorists, especially Afghan rebels who were fighting the Soviets.  Now, the AK-74 and the ATK-74 are two different types of weapons manufactured and based off of Private Kalashnikov's original idea. The banana clip of the AK-74 holds the same amount of rounds as the AK-47 because the shells' diameters are the same. Notice, 7.62x(39)mm and 5.45x(39)mm. The diameter of all of the shells is the same for the rounds of both weapons. Therefore, the AK-47 and the AK-74 hold the same amount of ammunition in their clips because the shells are the same width. The bullet itself is wider in the AK-47, but the shells are the same. I hope I helped you and your friend!
