The residents of the Stade Louis II have been in fine form since late February and are in with a shot of gaining promotion back to Ligue 1 if they win their remaining games
Before the new year, AS Monaco were a team that was struggling for survival in Ligue 2. However, things have drastically changed for a club that was relegated to Ligue 2 football last season.
They way things have changed, are certainly incredible. The Monegasque club is now looking to win promotion back to Ligue 1 and if this happens, it would be one of the biggest success stories of the current campaign.
And for coach Marco Simone, the most important thing is to maintain the club’s current position. Anything beyond that would be just great for the Italian tactician who was hired in September last year in the place of Laurent Banide.
“The first objective is maintenance. After that, we could do something else. It is not I who will say this, we’ll play ball. We will try to achieve an impossible goal. That means winning 7 out of 7 games. it is not impossible,” says the 43-year-old who is
coaching for the first time.
Unbeaten since February 17, 2012, Monaco have registered 7 wins and two draws in the league and with just a few games left, they might still have a great chance of returning to Ligue 1 football a lot sooner than many had expected.
As things stand, AS Monaco are in eight place in the Ligue 1 standings with 46 points from 33 games. they trail third-placed Troyes by five points which means that though they have a great chance of promotion, they might have to wait for another year to
do that.
Recent weeks show that AS Monaco have won most of their games on low margins so Simone will have to take a look at that particular stat aswell especially because the club’s goal difference is -4.
Eversince Dmitry Rybolovlev bought the club, things have changed as the Russian billionaire has financed moves for a few good players who have made all the difference in the world for a club which had seemingly lost its identity not so long ago.
