Question:

About the Chinese olympics.?

I've heard people talking over and over about that lip singing girl...

so here is my question. in 1992, in the Barcelona game in Spain, the ceremony to light the olympic fire was completely fake (the flaming arrow completely missed the big torch, but the fire got started anyway),

and in 2000, in the sydney olympics, the musical done by Sydney Symphony was not even their own work, but the recording of their competitor's work.

why weren't those two incidents discussed by the general public?

is it because China is special, so everyone has to use double standard when judging it?

  1. It surprises me that you mention this because it must be something that's happening where you live.

    The lip sync incident has not been the number one topic of converstion where I live.

    What country are you in?

  2. Actually in the 2000 Sydney Olympics the orchestra and choir also mimed.

    "Not only was the Sydney Symphony just going through the motions of a live performance while speakers pumped out recorded versions of its musical selections, some of the recordings were recorded by another group altogether, the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra."

    Nobody uttered a word at that time..

  3. This is NOT about double standards...this is media disinformation.

    Check this out (read also the credits that is due: (A) Yang Peiyi, (B) Lin Miaoke, (C) Lei Cixin)--That means China never hide from the public to show the backstage singer WAS THE REAL STAR.

    http://blog.foolsmountain.com/2008/08/12...

    This is an excerpt from 陈其钢 Chen Qigang, chief music director of the Beijing Olympics opening ceremony.:

    "We went to the Central Broadcasting Radio Station to make recordings. It was felt afterward that Lin Miaoke’s voice wasn’t exactly suitable in terms of tone control, range and depth. In the end, we decided that Yang Peiyi should be the one to provide the voice. We thought it was in the national interest to put the one with the best appearance and expression on the stage. Lin Miaoke was a very good choice for this role. But in terms of the music, we all felt that Yang Peiyi had the flawless voice.

    So,in the end, they chose to have the best of both worlds. It's only fair in a way. Why give all the honour to just one of the girls when they could give it to both? The best possible image <and> the best possible voice. Seems fully reasonable to me."

    In Western media I've often seen it presented as if Yang Peiyi had been considered "too ugly", which of course is ridiculous insulting nonsense but that goes in line with the general campaign of demonizing China..

    ~~~~~~It's sickening and almost want to vomit to all newspaper who misquote Chen Qigang who NEVER said the she was ugly.
    And BTW [[Jesse]] and [[Joe]] are pathetic human beings and their life is hammering China.
  4. not sure but it should have been talked about. I personally did not watch them for this reason among other reasons. Yes, nothing but a facade put on by China. They are a powerful communist country that has not been touched by the US.....wonder why???
    ps. why should i support hiding bald cab drivers
          why is it good that they think a girl is too ugly to sing in front of a crowd
          why are they flooding farmers fields for the games and giving them land they can't farm on???
          why is it ok to not let black & mongolian people in to your bars??
          why do they inject children at such young ages with undetectable steroids (all athletes use them)
  5. It is a show, no rules to say that the girl on stage must be the one singing.
  6. Because most people  didn't agree to do the Olympics in china this year so I guess that's there way to express them self's.
    Anny-way people in 2008 are mostly too dump to see beyond there television screen.
  7. I  think the lip singing was sad but no worse then some of the Pop singer who also lip sing.
  8. I agree with your points.
    The US media is so h**l bent on finding flaws in the Olympics games that China has set up!
    Every single mistake or tiny flaw is proceeded to be blown out of proportion! It is pretty ridiculous. Even when you watch the commentary on NBC, you barely hear a single compliment about the Beijing Games. The American media seem to enjoy bashing the Olympics because they cant seem to allow China to enjoy their moment of glory and spotlight, thus they attempt to put them in a negative light whenever they can.
    I don't like it, and find it very insulting to the Chinese people, to have US media constantly put them down and undermine them. And I'm not even Chinese
  9. I hate to say it, but probably. Enough people were upset about it or are just ignorant of cultures that are more different from their own that they were looking to catch anything. Also, the US and China were in such close contention for medals and many in the US get realllly competitive.
    :\ Thanks for mentioning the others, though, I hadn't heard about those.
  10. People were just thinking the Chinese are superficial...J/K Really though.... A lot of people find a subject like a cute little girl not being cute enough and made to hide a petty subject... The media really made it bigger then what it was. They are other real issues that people are concerned about when It comes to China.
  11. BEacuse they can't find anything else to pick on with China and her teams, they have to resort to anything.....
