About the Russia -- Georgia conflict

Can someone clear things up? what's going on? Who are the South Ossetian separatists? Are there 3 groups involved? Georgia, Russia, and South Ossetian separatists?

South Osetia wants to remain a free country. Georgia wants to control it. Russia is trying to keep Georgia from taking over this independent country.

Georgia is a freedom loving country that wants to be with NATO. One of their little provinces wants to be independent and got the russians to help them. Russia wants to invade georgia so it can retake land it lost when the soviet union collapsed. Georgia is trying to restore power in its land and russia is being an aggressive bum.

Georgia is trying to bring the breakaway province (South Ossetian) back into its fold. The Russians, on the other hand, appear to be supporting the breakaway province through the use of tanks and aircraft...but they claim its all in the name of 'peacekeepers.'  Many Russians live in the breakaway province and Putin (Prime Minister) is declaring support to the Russian citizens living there.  

the Problem is that Russia has violated Georgia's sovereign territory and is weighing in on the internal conflict.  but they're doing nothing more than the US and their coalition forces are doing in Iraq, ie, violating (right or wrong) another country's sovereign space.

NATO, the European Union, the US and the so-called OSCE is calling for a cessation of violence and return to negotiations.  Russia is also pissed that Georgia is requesting admission into NATO, something seen in their eyes as going over to the 'dark side of the force' so to speak.

South Ossetian is a province within Georgia. Georgia has been free from Russia for the last 16 years, wants to join NATO, and Russia wants it back.

I will admit that when I saw this on the news I had no idea there was another Georgia and was wondering why the US military wasnt helping one of our own states out.

South Osettia is not a province of Geordia! There is one country Osettian, We do not wants to live in Georgia and in Russia. This is our land. We are not separatists! But if choose i want to be in Russia not in georgia. Coze it is agression. Georgian president declare war against osettia.

Russia do not invading it helps to protect civilians, They are saving our lifes.

The South Ossetian separatists are a people in Georgia who want autonomy from the Georgian state,(somewhat like the Georgians wanting freedom from the USSR)  Georgia cracked down on this group and now Russia is interviening on behalf of the sepratists.  So Russia is trying to help the rebel sepratists get away from Georgia, and Georgia wants to prevent this...

There is Georgia and the government who is fighting against separatists. The separatists want Georgia to go and be with Russia, but government of Georgia doesn't want anything to do with Russia.

Your essentially correct. It is a bit confusing how this started, but basically this is a civil war and Russia is in the wrong here. I think Russia is using this to regain Georgia.
