Ok, bear with me, I am having a hard time putting this in words.

In regards of power, but not size, what would be a step up from a .22 LR?

Also, if I have a .22 rifle, but want to progress, what should I get?

  1. What Steve said 22WMR aka 22 Mag

  2. 22mag or a 17hmr --- both are on the small size to kill a  coyote (as far as finding them anyway) but perfect for groundhogs and raccoon.

A 22 hornet or 223 would generally be the next step up the ladder after that. Both are plenty good for what you're looking for.

  3. A .22 WMR look at my link

  4. A 17 HMR is a smaller calliber but capable of accurate shots to around 200 yards.

A .22/250 will gain you a little more distance than that.

    What are you hunting?

  5. get a 17 HMR

  6. If you're asking about rimfire .22s then the .22 Magnum is the next step up.  All .22s are varmint rounds though.  If you want to hunt deer move up to a .243.
