Ok.. I looked up accounting/majors but didn't find much.

I just started college this year fall and decided to go for accounting major

What I wanted to know is how long does it take to get your bachelor degree and masters. Do accounting even need to go as far as masters?

What type of classes should I start taking? How much of a income do accounting get yearly after school? Thanks

  1. I commend you on pursuing this very stable and rewarding career. You should either double major or do a minor it will be a 5 year posting. You can do a masters in a specialty say MS in Taxation to move up the ranks in your job later on. However once you graduate with your 150 credits  your job would want you to do the CPA exam.

    Good luck!

  2. For your bachelors, you'll need 4 years.  Most schools have a 5 year Masters program, so that would be 1 extra year after your bachelors.

You don't NEED a masters, but if you want to take the CPA exam, you need 150 hours of college credit I believe, and getting a masters through a 5 year program will get you those 150 hours.

As far as classes, meet with an advisor in that department to get you on track.

For income, it depends on what type of work.  If you work for a big or medium size firm doing audit or tax, you can expect to make about 50k after school, maybe more.
