  1. Another common organic acid that might be substituted for acetic acid is oxalic acid, H2C2O4.  Oxalic acid is a solid acid with two ionizable protons.

    The only catch is that it is a stronger acid, meaning that more of it dissociates to form hydrogen ions.  Therefore, fewer number of moles of oxalic acid might be needed to substitute for the acietic acid, which is a weaker acid.

    Notice, that when we use the term stronger and weaker, we're not talking about the concentration of the compound, but rather the relative amount that dissociates in water to produce hydrogen ions.
