Question:

Adopting a baby from Germany?

My husband (20) and I (19) would love to adopt a baby! We are probably never going to have children of our own because of medical reasons it is a very low chance I could get pregnant. We are both German and would love to adopt a German baby. I was just wondering if anyone knew the adoption process in Germany and how hard it would be to adopt. We are financially stable and are good people. I don't think there would be a problem with passing a home study. Can anyone help us? We live in Tacoma Washington if you need to know that information. Thank you for your help!

  1. I am posting the link from the US State dept on  adopting from Germany.  It looks like it is VERY rare for Americans to adopt from Germany.  The last year that Visa information was reported was 2006 and only 2 visas were issued for adoption from Germany.  Also it looks like at least one of you must be 25 yrs old.  http://travel.state.gov/family/adoption/...

    Good luck

  2. Germany is trying to increase its birth rate so I don't think the chances are high. They are offering incentives for adult to have more children.

  3. Adoption from Germany is super rare and mostly impossible.  Also, you guys are very very very young to adopt.  In a couple years (when you are 21) you should look into foster care.  This may be the best way for you to adopt at such a young age.

Other countries who let you adopt when you are "younger" usually won't let you adopt until you are 25 and/or married for five years. That is why I said you were very young.  In the adoption community anyone under 30 is considered pretty young.
